A 4-String Projoy Rapid Shutdown (RSD) unit—typically from the PEFS-EL Series (Array-Level Emergency Switches)—is an integrated safety device designed to immediately isolate solar panel strings at the array level, rapidly dropping system DC voltage for firefighter and maintenance safety (in compliance with standards like NEC 2017/2020 690.12).
Undervoltage Fail-Safe Disconnect: The motorized unit operates on continuous 100V–240V AC control power from the main panel. If utility power cuts or an external firefighter switch opens: The switch automatically drives to the OFF position in < 100 ms, breaking full DC load current under load. Isolates the DC conduit running to the inverter down to safe voltage levels (< 30V within 30 seconds). Automatic Reconnection: When AC grid power is restored, the motor automatically resets and reconnects the PV strings to the inverter without needing a manual rooftop intervention. Thermal Protection Cutoff: Features an internal temperature sensor that automatically trips the DC load switch if the enclosure’s internal temperature exceeds 85°C.
